Cedar of Lebanon            Back to Home Page

BTS has recently acquired a limited stock of Cedar of Lebanon.  Lengths up to 13 feet are available, some pieces contain knots, but some are perfectly clear.  All sapwood has been excluded and the timber has been air drying since November 2008.

Cedar of Lebanon is traditionally used for certain parts of indoor furniture – drawer bottoms for instance – due to its wonderful aroma which helps keep moths away!  However, with the long lengths we currently have available it could be used for many types of project including outdoor work as it is a very durable wood.  It is softer than oak, but is very much lighter, so may be ideal where oak would be too heavy.

Our cedar is available for the same price as Clear Green Oak. See the second table on the Green Oak page.  For an exact quote give us a ring or send us an email.

For cabinet making, we can supply straight-grained, knot-free, quarter-sawn pieces up to around 9 inches wide.  As these boards are quarter sawn they will be relatively stable despite their width.  Have a look at the picture on the right – this is a piece of cedar supplied by us in January 2009 – you don’t get much better than this.

This is beautiful aromatic timber, and will need final drying for a few weeks before planing and use.

A beautiful Cedar tree.

The Cedar available from Boatbuilding Timber Supplies was from a Bristol tree around 150 years old which was condemned because the roots were undermining a nearby bungalow.  What a shame they didn’t allow for this when they built the bungalow!  At least the timber will now be useful even though the tree is sadly no more.  At the time of writing some of the cedar is going to live on as two bird boxes, some carved boat name boards, a garden bench and table, a yert door, some gorgeous turned bowls and more.
